Joey has arrived!
Today has been an ok day. I got home really early this morning and i’ve been really really really tired all day. My eyes have been heavy and i’ve had this massive headache. My kids have been monsters (angelic) all day and that hasn’t helped!
Baby Joey is doing very well. Of course he is in an incubator and all the memories instantly came back to when Andrew was born. I find myself going back a year and a half reading my blogs from when Andrew was in the NICU and it’s all the same. Looking at the same O2 desets and having those dang monitors beep brings back nightmares. He’s doing really well though… much better than Andrew did and he was 37 weeks compared to 31 weeks for the baby.
There was such a little teeny baby next to him though, he was just over a pound in weight and very very tiny. His mom was very happy though – glad that he was fighting.
He is ver sweet though. I hesitated but I did pet his head, and he has such soft hair. It’s really hard for me because it does bring back memories. It’s like we knew Andrew would surivive but he kept having his ups and downs. I’m glad this baby is doing so well so far.
Tom is giving her so much grief these days I just wish she’d pack it all up and leave him. He dared argue with her today about breastfeeding and why she shouldn’t do it. He also told her that now that the baby is born he doesn’t need to baby her anymore or worry about her. Grrrr. The last thing you need right now while your still in the hospital is a man that doesn’t support you.
I’m sure I will make it back up there tomorrow. I have to take Chris to his neurology appointment in the morning though… I am looking forward to it, but in some ways not. I want answers for his behavior, learning issues, etc… but maybe then again I don’t.
I’m so tired so i’m going to wrap it up!
Well last night Julie finally had the baby and it was wayyy too easy for her! Very little pain and the kid popped out easy. He was only 31 weeks along so he was very premature, but he is doing just fine.
Here was my journal for last night:
2:03a.m.:
Julie came into the hospital around 8:00p.m. with back pain that she said was making her extremely uncomfortable. I got to the hospital around 8:30 or so, and Tom came and got me from the waiting room. At that point he told me she had a leak in fluid. Well her contractions started to get stronger. At about 9:45p.m. or so we heard this loud bang on the fetal monitor and all of a sudden Julie was like “Ohhhhhhhhhh, oh my god, stuff is coming out!!” and sure enough her water broke. Every time we made her laugh more liquid would come out.
About an hour ago, after the 1a.m. they came in and checked her and I heard the MD say, “oh boy”. She said she was dilated to 3-4cm which is up from the 2 she was earlier. They also said they could see the head.
About a half hour after that they came back in and said they were ordering her back on magnesium. She was not happy about that. So they started it up full blast and about 5 minutes later they came back in and said, “Sorry, I just talked to doctor so and so, and she said no magnesium” so in a way it’s a sigh of relief, but on the other hand she is only 31 weeks along, so this baby will be very premature and will end up in the NICU.
It’s 2:11a.m. now and she’s received stadol and trying to rest.
2:21 a.m.:
She was just put on oxygen because the baby’s heartbeat had slowed down a tiny bit.
2:28a.m.:
They are currently checking her with a speculum. The doctor doesn’t believe in finger checking. Everybody is going gaga because they are able to see the baby’s head and they see it moving around. They state she is a good 4-5cm dilated now.
3:47a.m.:
Sometime between 3:15a.m. and 3:40a.m. Julie got her epidural & now she is relaxing peacefully. We sat out in the waiting room and waited while they booted us out.
4:12a.m.: They came in to check Julie and they said she was an 8!!!!! They are moving in the birthing stuff and getting things ready!
5:40a.m.: Jen has intuition that she’s fully dilated and Julie doesn’t want to call the nurse. Finally we got her to call the nurse and sure enough she was dilated. Minutes later she was pushing, and only 3 sets of pushing later he was born. He was so tiny but of good size. He was born at 5:44a.m. His head was cone shaped, and he has Tom’s nose. He was crying good and breathing on his own. They let us come over and see him in the room, and then they wrapped him up and brought him to Julie. They left him with Julie for about a minute and then they took him to the NICU. They said he could be there a couple weeks.
