I knew it. I told him. I'm so upset for him. Andrew has had this cough since boot camp… frankly a lot of recruits get a cough. My BFF Julie's developed pneumonia at Parris Island (it's endemic there) during Marine bootcamp. When Andrew graduated boot camp his mamma ordered him to see a doc. After all, a medic wannabe at the time right? When I had double pneumonia around Christmas, he diagnosed me based on my symptoms even after I went to the docs and they misdiagnosed me. He came home on holiday block leave for Christmas, still with a cough. I said go to the doctor before you move on to the next phase. He didn't. He hid his cough from me somehow, our entire trip to Texas and frankly he did quite well because I'm certain he had to hide it during medic training. On our way home from Texas he was on speaker to his GF and he did nothing but cough so badly. So then he gets to Army Ranger selection program, and I knew they would medically check him before starting since they beat you to a pulp and it's like bootcamp 3.0 on steroids… and sure enough he has pneumonia. I cried when he told me. Now he's on antibiotics but they will likely drop him. That's not to say he can't try again, and he's not greatly bothered by it since it allows him to start working as a medic on a base wherever… but still. I listened to him when I was sick, I wish he would have listened to me. He's a butt head, but also my hero! 🙂
