The only thing Detroit can be proud of is what is in this video, which still ranks right up there #1 on my video list of keepers. I like Eminem though too… and I miss seeing all the sights in this video. I still wear my “Imported from Detroit” shirt. Anyway, I miss the FOX theatre, with Comerica Park and failure Detroit Lion’s Ford Field across the street. I miss the Hockeytown Cafe and the 2nd City. I miss Dearborn, Henry Ford Museum & Greenfield Village, I miss Frankenmuth and Bronners, I miss going up north. I miss Cedar Point in Ohio because everyone knows I’m a thrill junkie, I miss Elizabeth Park in Trenton (usually where the bodies wash up from Detroit) but otherwise a nice park, I miss the fact that you can go from the Ohio Border to the top of Michigan on I-75 without ever seeing a cop, lol. I miss seeing my city Southgate for what it used to be. A family-oriented community that had annual events I shared with my family until Detroiters infiltrated Downriver. I miss dining at the top of the RenCen and seeing GM’s cars on display at the bottom. I miss MGM Grand, and I miss the spa at the Motor City Casino. I miss taking a sledge hammer to rocks and busting them open in hopes of finding geodes. I miss Rogers City, Mackinaw City, St. Ignace, Lake Huron, Lake Michigan, Traverse City, Big Bear dunes, Mackinac Island. I miss crossing the bridge to Windsor, Ontario so I could go to Casino Windsor. I missed the defined cultural areas. You knew you could go to Oak Park and get a good Jewish Deli, you knew you could go to Farmington Hills for great Indian Food, you knew you could go to Mexicantown and get great Mexican Food, and you knew you could hit up the slums (see video of refineries below in my 18 sec. clip, it sits next door) and have the best italian meal. It sits in the worst neighborhood in Detroit, but I loved it. You knew you could go to Dearborn and get good Arabic food, but I still found my fav. to be in Taylor (Malek Al-Kabob). I miss it all. I will never move back, my home is in the South wherever “South” is defined. Life will take me wherever, and I’m willing to do whatever life chooses for me. Here’s my boy wearing my shirt.
