My neighbor was brutally murdered by her worthless son.
Well she was my neighbor for 7 years until I moved a year ago, but still, I knew her, I knew her son and so it’s just surreal. Irene Shields was 86 years old. Her husband died a long time ago and she lived with her jobless wiccan son James Sheilds, who was 53. When we moved in he would always say hi to us, especially Matt. He worked as a cashier at Farmer Jack and when they went bust, he has been unemployed ever since. He was always a weird weird human being. We always knew right from the get go that this man was the type that would harm a child or murder someone, or jokingly we always said would sacrifice one of our animals to the gods. His own mother is the last person I thought would end up murdered. He was a bum, he leeched off of her and he was so very disgusting. You just always wondered what button would set him off.
So, this morning I did my usual reading of the local paper and saw the headline that read something like, “Southgate man charged with murder after elder mother found dead”. Something in me said I had to read that article. When I saw that it said, “James Alan Sheilds, 53” my jaw dropped. It is so unfortunate that this poor woman lived 86 years and still took care of HER mother who is still alive, lived all these years just to die of murder. How horrible. It scares me though because we lived next door, what if it was my child he took it out on, or one of us? We don’t know what led up to it, but it’s disturbing nonetheless. God only knows, what if we get called as witnesses because we lived there so long we can testify to his abnormal character. I don’t think that will happen though. I am sad regardless. My son is disturbed because he talked to Jim. He now knows someone that was murdered and someone who is a murderer. Not good for a 10 & 7 year old.

James Alan Shields, 53, has been charged with first-degree premeditated murder for stabbing his 86-year-old mother to death on the Fourth of July, according to a report by the Detroit News.
Southgate police discovered the body of Irene Shields while responding to a 911 call about a disturbance at about 8 p.m. Wednesday at a home in the 12300 block of Longtin Street, according to the report. She had suffered multiple stab wounds.
Investigators identified her son as a suspect on Thursday and he was arrested.
Southgate police confirmed the murder suspect is in custody, but had no further details to release.
