Lucky Us….

Well today, it almost happened again.  What if Matt didn’t have another excellent job lined up?  Today Pfizer made a huge announcement that they were shutting down the Ann Arbor facility effective this Friday.  Matt’s last day was Friday and he is to start his new job with Computer Associates on Monday.  How can the timing be any more perfect?  Nobody had any idea that this was coming… not one clue.    People walked off their jobs crying.  We were lucky this time.  Hopefully this will not happen again.  I feel sorry for each and every individual that worked there.  The main reason for all this is the fact that they had a major drug that was supposed to be a hit and was supposed to replace their cholesterol drug Lipitor… however, people started dying during the trials so they quit that drug.  They have no more drugs in their pipeline and the patents they hold on their money makers are running out soon, so they will lose lots of money.

Well Sunday Matt is supposed to fly to San Francisco for a week of training.  Then after a week he’ll come back for a day and head off to Massachusetts for two weeks.  I am NOT looking forward to that.  I can barely get by on my own for a couple days let a lone 3 weeks.  I look forward to my evenings of peace and quiet while Matt tends to the children.  That is my time to do things for me.  Ah well, it’ll give me good practice incase he has to travel more.

So anyway his position is confirmed that he is a Senior Associate – just a step down from management.  That is where he ideally would like to be someday.  The benefits are ok.. nothing to terribly great.  Hopefully they cost less.  The more you make the cheaper the benefits are for you.

What sucks really badly is they didn’t tell him up front that he is responsible for the travel charges incurred on his 3 week look excursion.  They will reimburse him, but he’s initially responsible.  So he moaned and groaned a bit and he might be able to get them to take care of the California leg of the trip but the Boston part will be up to us I think.  I have some Northwest airline miles to get him a ticket to Boston.

I was thinking about joining him with the kids in Massachusetts for  a weekend, but i’m not sure i’m up to the 11 hour car drive again.  Especially alone and with 2 kids.  That is something I will have to ponder greatly for a while.
