Finally home after 2 surgeries!
My surgery actually went very well, surprisingly well! I actually got out of the hospital the day after my surgery, but was readmitted the following day. Well in our “manual” it says we can swallow those citracal petites pills because they are small enough, doesn’t say a thing about chopping them up crushing them nothing. It says that about multi’s and stuff just not those. So instead of listening to my gut instinct, I swallowed it. Within minutes I knew I made a mistake. I’ve had the lapband, so I know what a “stuck” feeling is. This thing was stuck and stuck good. I called my docs office and he told me to drink mineral oil and hot tea to relax the muscles… nothing worked. So I went in for an emergency scope. What they found was that whatever was stuck was out of scopes range, but fluid was pooling up in my stomach. Really nasty fluid that was brown and smells like what comes out the back side… yeah gross! So anyway, they admit me, the next day I did have to do the upper GI. The results of my barium swallow showed a blockage in my bowels or a narrowing. Yep, I was scheduled for surgery at 2:30 on Friday. In the 24 hours until my surgery I had fevers constantly up to 103 degrees, severe chills, profusely sweating, and was severely tachychardic (heart rate above 130). So surgery day comes, and it’s pretty much the same routine stuff I went in for the bypass, same room, same nurses everything. When I woke up, it was almost as if nothing was even done. They avoided re-entering my most painful incision under my left rib cage, so all i have right now is some slight tenderness of the incisions on the right but that’s all, not a lot of pain. Anyway, they had to reconstruct my bowels and rearrange some things down there. They made the passageway too narrow, so they disconnected me, and moved me down the road somewhere and reconnected me. I’m now much better thankfully, but let me tell you, it wasn’t pleasant and it was very scary. You go in there thinking you won’t be one of those statistics, and you tell yourself that and you believe it. I left just fine, this didn’t happen until the next day!
I’m done with pills (aside from colace)! I bought some Upcal-D chewables which are gross and it goes along with my other chewables, but saves me from having to swallow things for a few weeks anyway. I need to let things heal!
