Back from Vegas!
I went to Las Vegas on Tuesday (Nov. 20th) and stayed for two whole days. It was a fulfilling two days, but I need to go back to experience more. We got picked up at 6:45a.m. by a metro car and headed off for Metro Airport. We checked in, and I drugged myself of course. I guess I got on the flight ok, I can’t really remember. I kinda remember landing in Las Vegas but that’s it. I remember a stretch limo picking us up for the whole mile long drive to our hotel! We checked into Treasure Island pretty quickly. According to tripadvisor.com most of the reviews claimed there would be horrifically long waits at check-in but not for us. We went through the casino and up to our room. We had a Tower Suite. Of course the room was great, and the bathroom was awesome (both of them) but the view sucked butt. My bathroom had a ginormous jacuzzi tub in it. I had a lovely view of the Wynn and some other hotel and in between some mountains. The Sirens of TI show was out of order for maintenance until mid-December so we missed out on that.
We met up with Matt’s parents around 4:00p.m. at the Flamingo. We talked with them a couple hours and then they headed out for a tour of the strip and we managed to walk a mile or two to the Rio hotel to see Penn & Teller. We had no idea it was so far off the strip so we ended up walking on the backroads of Vegas just to get there, but it was a nice walk. We got to the Rio and picked up our tickets to the show (I recommend pre-booking on Vegas.com — great!) and we gambled a little at the casino there. We also had dinner there but I was too drunk to enjoy it. At some point that day I decided to have a couple glasses of straight rum (free while gambling). So my nice steak dinner went to waste. The show was good though, and entertaining, but not quite worth $83.50 each. I got “Teller”‘s autograph and a picture with him after the show though, he is quite cute for an older little man! We caught a cab back to Treasure Island and spent a couple hours in the casino where we won a few hundred dollars. It is so pleasant to gamble late at night when you have your pick of the machines! We tend to play penny slots and stuff, but I popped a dollar into one of those gigantic slot machines and hit it for $300.
We went to bed at like 2:30a.m. and I never got a chance to take a bath in the Jacuzzi that night. The beds were comfortable too. The next morning we took the place of Aunt Maureen & Uncle Roy on the Hoover Dam tour with his parents. That was interesting, and about what I expected after watching National Lampoon’s Vegas Vacation 100 times over. I’m glad we went on that tour. When we got back from that we met up with Mo & Roy and had lunch at Margaritaville. Next, we went and had a walk around the Venetian, which is a fabulous hotel. We will stay there next time. We were gonna have a gondola ride, but decided against it due to lack of time. Instead we went inside and walked around the casino and shops and had some gelato while starting at this really old man dressed in white motionless only moving his hands around. God that must have been a hard job for him!! Anyhow, after that we talked them into buying tickets to our show for that night, “Dirty Hypnosis: Unleashed” – little did I know what goes on at that show. So it got dark at like 5:00pm and we took a Deuce bus on a tour down the strip and went down to Fremont St. to check out Binions, The Golden Nugget, etc. Those casino’s suck. I like the light show on Fremont St. though.
After that we went back to the Flamingo let his mom get freshened up for the show and we walked down to Planet Hollywood to go to the Harmon theatre for the show. We ignored all of the illegal mexican immigrants passing out hooker cards on the strip and each time I passed one I yelled out “Get a real job” or “Greencard!”. I couldn’t help it.
So we get to the theatre and Matt and I get in the VIP line and his parents and aunt and uncle get in the regular line. I was totally up for being hypnotized, but Matt really wasn’t but I begged him too. I didn’t know what the show entailed. I should have guessed when we were standing outside there was a parking sign for “Drag Queens Only”. So this is a relatively small personal show with about 50 audience members. They ask for volunteers and we go onstage (not before a double shot of whiskey). The guy goes through this schpeel and does his “one the count of 3… blah blah blah). He described hypnosis more like being drunk, which I agree. You know what’s going on and you remember everything, but you are completely willing to do almost anything. Let’s just say it was perverted and gross, and things got a little wild (no nudity though). I participated a lot, but Matt didn’t cooperate too terribly much, but who can blame him, his parents were in the audience!! I have the dvd of our show ($30!!), and I have yet to watch it. I’m kind of embarassed!!

So anyway, after the show it was a quick departure back to the hotels with quick permanent goodbye’s to the family. They went back to their hotel and we went back to ours because we had to leave at 6:45a.m. the following morning. They had to leave at 7a.m. to continue on their Western tour of the U.S. We went back to our hotel and gambled a little bit more, with no luck. We quit and went to eat at a restaurant called “The Coffee Shop” which is open 24 hours. The food was ok, but nothing too terribly impressive. When I got back to the hotel room it was like 1:30a.m. and I finally got to take a bath in the Jacuzzi and it was the best tub i’ve ever been in. It didn’t last long because we had to get up a few hours later.
The limo picked us up promptly at 6:45a.m. and we headed off to the airport. We boarded our plane and headed home for Thanksgiving dinner. Unfortunately I don’t remember Thanksgiving dinner because I took too much medicine before I got on the plane, but I know I didn’t eat because I didn’t feel so swell.
Matt is off to Florida tomorrow (lucky him!). I’ll be all alone with my lovely children for 3 days. I’m jealous… he’ll be toasty warm and i’ll be freezing cold! I have stuff to do this week. Chris has an appointment at Children’s hospital and I think he has a dentist appointment too.
Ah well, I’ll post a link to my vegas video (not the hynosis show!) soon. I’m working on it right now.
