Approval has come!

Doing the happy dance!  I had to finish my 6 month “diet”, which I knew couldn’t be much of a diet because if I lost weight I would no longer be able to be approved for WLS.  I was within 10lbs of disqualifying myself.  So 2 1/2 weeks after my band was removed on 7/17/09 I also underwent a freakin tonsillectomy.  Yeah, just 2 1/2 weeks later.  Talk about rough.  I thought during that period of time I would “accidentally” lose more than I should considering you can’t eat much after a surgery like that.  Thankfully I maintained, not sure how, but that’s how it works when you’re fat.  I just can’t lose weight no matter what.  So anyhow, I had my last dietician appointment on Sept. 1st, 2009 and Clara from St. John’s submitted my paperwork and opened up a case the same day.  I have been worried about having Cigna as my insurer because if you do a simple Google search of “cigna and RNY”… all the horror stories pop up.  Of course, most of the horror stories are pre-2006, so I think something change.

They probably seen I just had a lapband removed obviously, so they knew obviously if that didn’t work fully for me, that dieting in general wouldn’t work.  Also, I proved a very detailed diet log for 6 straight months.  That detailed everything I put in my mouth, my daily exercise, and my daily caloric intake.  You can’t get more detailed than that.

So, I got a call today from Clara at St. John’s like just a few minutes before she goes on vacation to tell me I’m approved.. Noelle from the front desk just called me a few minutes ago and gave me a date… my new life begins on October 5th!!  I can’t wait, but believe me I’m scared to death.  Am I pushing my luck too far?  This will have been my 3rd surgery in 2 months, and my 4th surgery this year.  Can I possibly have 4 surgeries in one year and have them all go well? I had a c-section in February, my lap-band removed in July, my tonsillectomy in August, and now my RNY in October.  I hope it goes very well.

I for one know the toll it takes on you.  Those first few weeks out are hell on earth, and I know that personally from having the lapband put in, and the swelling so bad I had to be in the hospital because I couldn’t even take the liquids.  My first couple weeks were full of tears and depression.  Hopefully now that I am “experienced” it will go alright, I kind of know what to expect.

I have my “class” on September 28th to teach me the in’s and out’s of WLS from 9a.m. – 11a.m.  I will only have one week to do a liquid diet, if they need me too.  I just hope that the syntrax protein powder I ordered fulfills my taste expectations… and I can live off the stuff.

I’m on my way!!
