Ok well in the last two weeks I have been on one rollercoaster of emotion! At last minute I decided to go and get a Lap-Band put on instead of having RNY surgery. I did this on July 29th.
After I had the surgery, I mean immediately after I got out of the recovery room, I had to ask myself why I did this. I thought I made the most horrible mistake ever. That feeling didn’t leave me until yesterday, almost 2 weeks later.
I recovered well from surgery and flew home. A couple days later my stomach started to swell up and I could no longer drink any fluids — the only thing keeping me alive. I went to Wyandotte hospital and was told to stay overnight and get a surgical consultation to remove it. I freaked out and left about 5 minutes after they gave me morphine for no reason. I was still suffering though.
About 3 days later I went back into Wyandotte hospital where they then transferred me to Henry Ford hospital in Detroit. There they kept me a couple days and filled me with fluids.
As of yesterday I had airline tickets, and surgery scheduled for 6:30p.m. our time TODAY to have this band removed at a cost of $3000 plus a $1200 airline ticket. Needless to say a small miracle happened last night. I hadn’t had fluids in 2 days, and I wasn’t supposed to eat or drink anything after 10p.m. last night. I figured i’d give it one more go of drinking something just before 10p.m., and sure enough I GUZZLED a half a bottle of water without pain or nausea!!!
I immediately called Nina at the hospital and told her to cancel everything, and thank GOD my airline ticket was refundable. I’m fine now.
I’m down about 23lbs so far, and it’ll keep coming off. I feel good, but I don’t yet see a difference. I think I feel a difference. One major thing I notice is that i’m always cold now. Having the band changes your metabolism i’m told, so i’m always freezing.
I think I can do this.
Other things, well it’s definetly been a rollercoaster month for sure. I’ve been up north, to Niagara Falls, and California all in 3 weeks. That’s a heck of a lot of traveling. I’m going to be glad for the normal weekend coming up. I was in the hospital last weekend so I haven’t had a peaceful one yet.
Andrew is going to be 6 months next week. Time sure is flying by fast. He’s a very cranky baby though — but a happy one too. He’s weird :o)) At his last check up he weighed in at 15lbs 14oz and was 25 inches long — a shorty so the doc says. Ah well, it’s Matt’s family trait.
Chris is getting to be such a big boy. He’s fully potty trained. He started the day he turned 3 and has had very few accidents since. He starts pre-school in a couple weeks. He can be a smart mouth, and I hope it doesn’t get him trouble at school!!
I start college again this fall at the end of August. I’m taking Sociology, Biology, and Government. Julie is taking them with me, so it will be interesting.
